Squire Smith Inn

President's Room

President's Room President's Room Fireplace

This beautiful room contains a queen sized cherry sleigh bed, a Queen Ann side table, a comfortable, old maple rocking chair, and private bath. A “now retired” stone fireplace has the words inscribed, “East, West, Hame’s Best.”  The inscription can be dated to the Fendrick children (1889-1944). A private bath is offered.

This room is titled the Presidents’ Room because both Woodrow Wilson and Calvin Coolidge stayed in this room while visiting their sons at the Academy. President Coolidge mourned the accidental death of his son, Calvin Junior (1924), in this room for over a month.

This room makes a second room in a 2-room suite via an adjoining door with the Dr. Hugh Mercer Room.
